Mid-Year Update from our Designer

Hi lovelies!  What a whirlwind of a year so far!  It’s been so crazy these past couple of months here at Winky Designs and we’re experiencing firsts of everything!

We opened our first retail store on the Las Vegas Strip, right in the heart of the prime location of Grand Bazaar Shops in front of Bally’s Hotel. Meeting travelers from all around the world has been fantastic and eye-opening, only fueling our passion for travel even more!
Winky Designs at Grand Bazaar Shops, Unit 402

We’ve also launched a few new Iconic Watches, all stemming from creative customer ideas. Introducing our Numbers Iconic Watch, TeachersIconic Watch, and Fitness Iconic Watch, we’ve really taken our customer feedback to the next level, and so wonderful to watch an idea from a conversation spark into an actual product that's come to life!

And saving the biggest news for last is that I’ll soon be a first-time mom! My baby girl will come into the world mid-August, and I simply cannot wait to meet her! Many new journeys await me, so I’m thankful to have such loyal fans and a supportive team while I embark on this new adventure!
There never is a dull moment here at Winky Designs…. :)

5 Ways to Look Good While Being Lazy

Let me start by saying that if I didn't need to get up and look decent this morning I wouldn't have. With Bruno Mars's Lazy Song in my head and a reluctant pep-in-my-step, I mustered up the strength to get ready. So here is my 5 step guide to getting ready…The Lazy Way !

Step 1: Your makeup should be clean and minimilistic. Start with your base (foundation and concealer). For my eyes, I did a simple cat eye but started mid lid and swept it out. Lightly pencil in your eyebrows and finish your look with a neutral blush and powder. Adding a brightly colored lipstick will complete your look and give the illusion of effort.

Step 2: Obviously you have infinite ideas for your hair, but put all those aside and think about this: What goes with everything, is easy, and won't drive you nuts all day? My go-to hair style is what I call the "Cinnamon Twist". It's easy, takes me no more then a few minutes, and can be worn a multitude of ways. A few bobby pins, tease, a twist, a few more pins, and I'm ready to dress!

Step 3: To complete the look-unfortunately the pajamas have to go. Don't skimp on the comfort, you can still look cute and be snug as a bug! Grab your favorite comfy pair of straight legged jeans (not too tight but not baggy) and a cute sweater. I chose my halfsie sweater, put a simple black tank under, and tucked it in.

Step 4: This will be your most important step to complete the look. I like to call this my junk jewelry swap. That doesn't mean it isn't quality, it's just not real gold or silver and won't cost an arm and a leg. Wearing watches help me avoid putting on bracelets that i'll magically sling off my wrist when I am talking with my hands throughout the day (Italian's smh), so watch it is! Pairing your earrings with your lipstick also adds a contrast of color so your outfit isn't a snore. Last but not least comes the necklace. Because of my short sweater, I grabbed a long hanging necklace to draw the eye.

Step 5: I have what I like to call "crack paranoia". If I look in the mirror and bend over and there is even a possibility of something showing, the belt goes on. It's lazy day so sneakers are the obvious choice.

VoilĂ , those are the steps to a lazy outfit. If any of that takes you more then minutes, give up and go back to bed ;P.

Down the Rabbit Hole

My outfits are never well thought out or pre-planned; they are more…accidental creations, if you will. With the New Year off to a fun, crazy start and the weather beautiful here in Las Vegas, I was able to get away with wearing my vintage-looking high waist shorts. I nicknamed this outfit my “Modern Day Alice” look. When reading a book, you’re supposed to picture the characters in your mind and I like to go a step further and imagine them in more modern times (reading is good for your noggin). This is something I could see Alice wearing as an everyday outfit in today's world. Retro, but with an old-timey feel and awesome heels! After that slip of inner nerdiness, I give you this week's style guide!

Who doesn't like the look of a bandana or a cotton hankie hangin' out the back pocket? Thought I'd add a new twist and I used a beautiful purple scarf instead.

Who can say no to purple Mary Jane heels?!? They were on sale for less than ten bucks.

I call this watch my silent cheerleader. Positioned in front of a photograph of pink cherry blossoms is a simple word: “FAITH”. When I look down at it, I’m reminded to never lose faith in myself. I’m stronger than I know and whatever twists and turns life has for me, I can face them head on. Cue epic music!

Luck was on my side when I found these shorts. It was the last pair in my size. ‘Twas a match made in heaven.

I bought this shirt at Walmart and it’s a no-name-brand waffle knit undershirt. I say this with much pride: It only cost $5.99. But look how cute it is paired with these shorts!

The locket was a gift from a girl friend of mine, and she got soooo many brownie points for finding this homemade treasure for me. Love you Brandi ; )

New Year’s resolutions have never been my thing but this year I took inspiration from one of my favorite books, Alice in Wonderland. So with that said, this will be my saying for the year:

In 2014, I won't lose FAITH in myself even when my dreams seem so big and I feel so small.
